Gurnee Crowns at Washington Dental Excellence

What Are Crowns?

When 50 percent or more of a tooth is damaged or worn away, we will often suggest crowns or dental implants. A crown is a prosthetic device that is permanently cemented into place atop the remaining portion of a damaged tooth. The crown will cover or “cap” the tooth, strengthening it while also improving its appearance, shape or alignment. Crowns also make it less likely that the surrounding teeth will move towards a damaged tooth or become damaged themselves.

Why Would I Need A Crown?

There are many reasons Dr. Bezouska may recommend a crown. The following are some of the reasons a crown may be needed:

  • To restore a fractured tooth
  • To cover a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment
  • To replace a large filling when there is not enough natural tooth remaining
  • To restore a fractured tooth
  • To attach a bridge
  • To cover a dental implant
  • To cover a badly discolored or poorly shaped tooth
